Home moves are permitted

06 January 2021 Property & Estate Agency Stewart Baillie

A new year and another lockdown in Scotland, however we are hopefully starting to see light at the end of the tunnel with the roll out of the vaccination programme.

Throughout mainland Scotland, people are currently only permitted to leave their homes for essential purposes. However there are exceptions and the Scottish Government has confirmed that activities in connection with moving home, including viewing a property, are still allowed, as long as they can be carried out safely.

With many people deciding to move north of the border since the start of the pandemic, as well as escape to more rural areas, there are questions from many Scottish and English buyers on the property market situation here and what is currently permitted.

Assuming no further changes are announced, house moves can continue to take place in all five of Scotland's tier levels. The Government has given updated guidance on moving home and makes it clear that home moves will continue to be permitted, provided they can be carried out safely. Therefore if you are selling, or buying, it is important to have a degree of flexibility with the current situation - if of course anyone involved in the house move transaction has coronavirus symptoms or is self-isolating, alternatives must be considered and people may wish to think about whether they can postpone a move and related activities.
