January – Falling in or falling out of love?

23 January 2019 Family Law Ruth Croman

As we all look to plan for the year ahead this month, for many people a New Year’s Resolution is more than “Dry January” or deciding to do a little bit more exercise every day. For many, 2019 will be a significant fresh start, a time to look forward and a time to manage their affairs.

Couples swept up in the twinkling lights and merriment of the festive period, will look forward to planning a future together in 2019. This may mean a wedding, a new property, or even the start of a family. It can be an exciting and even magical time, but it is important that couples look at the practicalities surrounding marriage and any change to their circumstances. From pre-nuptial arrangements to mortgage agreements to Wills, make sure you are covered so you can enjoy your future together and your family is protected.

On a less joyous note, for many years the media have dubbed January as “Divorce Month”. Although perhaps not statistically true, often the dawn of a New Year can mean that people are resolved to make changes to their lives. Christmas can often be a very stressful period for families, when financial strains coupled with claustrophobic family time can sometimes result in couples reaching breaking point. If 2019 does mean separating, living apart or divorce, then have a look at the Parenting Apart course (insert link to https://www.relationships-scotland.org.uk/family-support/parenting-apart-groups) run by Relationship Scotland for some advice about how you and your children can move forward positively.

We offer assistance on the full spectrum of family law, handling each case on an individual basis with tact and sensitivity, but we don’t stop there. So whether is it financial, property and pension Issues arising from divorce, or disputes about children, we can help.

So if Christmas has brought about some changes to your family situation, for better or for worse, Macnabs are here to help guide you through the process and protect your future.
