Make a free Will this November with Will Aid

15 October 2020 Wills, Trusts & Estates Sarah Mitchell

We are delighted to be taking part in the Will Aid charity scheme again this year and are now taking bookings for appointments in November.

Macnabs has taken part in Will Aid for 9 years. The Will Aid scheme is held annually in November and lawyers generously give up their time for free to write Wills for local people, in exchange for a donation to the charity. Macnabs has raised an impressive total of £54,361 to date making us one of he highest donating firms in Scotland.

Director Alan Roughead comments: “With Will Aid, everyone benefits. Clients get a professionally drawn-up Will and peace of mind, while charities such as the British Red Cross, NSPCC and Age UK receive much-needed donations for their vital work. At Macnabs, our corporate social responsibility programme is an important part of who we are. We have a strong track record of supporting our local communities and helping causes that are close to people’s hearts and it is great to have been involved in Will Aid again and to be able to give something back has been wonderful.”

Sarah Mitchell, Solicitor in the Private Client team at Macnabs adds: “If there is one thing coronavirus has taught us it is that life is precious and we will do everything we can to protect those we love. We have seen the number of people looking to write new Wills rise dramatically following the outbreak of coronavirus. Without a Will you have no control over what will happen to your money, possessions and property after you die, often leading to stressful, and also costly, family disputes. We have unfortunately seen that happen too many times, so it is great to see that people are planning for their future and ensuring their Will accurately reflects what they want to happen when they die. Making a Will is easy to do and we are currently meeting clients via video conferencing so there is no need to come into our offices.”

The Will Aid scheme takes place across the country from 1-30 November and supports ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (N. Ireland). Participating solicitors have raised more than £20 million for the Will Aid charities since it launched 31 years ago.
